Wendy Toms is a former referee, who worked across both the women’s and men’s game during her career. She was the first female to work as an assistant referee in both the men’s Football League and Premier League, while also being the first official in the men’s Football Conference. One of her highlights working in the men’s game was as an assistant referee during the 2000 men’s League Cup Final between Leicester City and Tranmere Rovers at Wembley Stadium. While blazing a trail in the men’s game, Toms was also working at some of the women’s game’s most prestigious competitions as a member of FIFA’s international list of referees, during which time she officiated at both the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney and the 2005 UEFA Women's European Championships in England.
